Methamphetamine Addiction

Methamphetamine addiction occurs when a person begins to use it as a stimulant because of its heightened effects on pleasure and alertness.

Methamphetamine (also known as N-methyl amphetamine or desoxyephedrine methyl amphetamine) is a sympathomimetic and psycho stimulant drug. Methamphetamine is under the family of phenylethylamines.

What does methamphetamine do?

Doctors use methamphetamine since it is an effective central nervous system stimulant which target neurochemical mechanisms in charge for regulating body temperature, heart rate, appetite, blood pressure, mood, and attention responses related with alarm conditions or alertness. It enters the brain and triggers a cascading discharge of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. Given that it stimulates the mesolimbic reward pathway, causing euphoria and excitement, it is prone to abuse and addiction. Users may turn out to be obsessed or carry out repetitive tasks such as assembling and disassembling objects, cleaning, or hand-washing. Withdrawal is characterized by unnecessary sleeping, eating, and depression like symptoms, often accompanied by anxiety and drug-craving. Methamphetamine is addictive, more than ever, when injected or smoked.

Why is methamphetamine so addicting?

Methamphetamine addiction is one of the most difficult forms of addictions to treat. An obsession to methamphetamine naturally occurs when a person begins to use the drug as a stimulant, because of its pleasing effects on sex and pleasure, ability to concentrate and alertness. However, the efficiency decreases, and users find that they want to take higher doses to obtain the equal results; also that they have great difficulty functioning effectively without the drug. Long term side effects of using Methamphetamine may include paranoia, hallucinations, change in brain structure and functions, aggressive or violent behavior, memory loss, several dental problems and weight loss.

Methamphetamine addicts may possibly lose their teeth unusually quickly, a condition known as “meth mouth”. This result is not caused by any corrosive effects of the drug itself, which is a common myth. Users can show evidence of sexually uncontrollable actions while under the influence. This pay no attention to the potential dangers of unprotected sex or other thoughtless sexual behavior may add to the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

  1. My daughter is now 42 years old. She has two children, one who is grown and on her own, the other who is living out on her own at 16, due to the fact their mom is an addict.
Currently my daughter is living in her car as she has destroyed the relationships with all her family members who can’t stand watching her destroy herself anymore. She has an extremely supportive family. Unfortunately she doesn’t know she needs help to do this. We all would love to support her through her addiction, if only she could realize that we can’t do it for her, and that decision lies in her hands. ❤️

  4. My name is Robin, in writing about my youngest daughter. She is 24 currently in jail. My whole family are addicts, from heroin, pot, pills. We r recovering addicts. Chelsea the youngest is in active addiction. Sad, sad. She has witnessed domestic violence between her father my xhusband. Also in the same time period she lost her brother that had been fighting a very rare disease. He was 20. Also she lost her grandmother. A couple years go by and she had a beautiful baby girl. When she was maybe 1 Chelsea lost custody of her beautiful daughter. That destroyed her. During this time she got pregnant again and had identical twin boys. Which I her mom has custody of. She is in the grips of addiction and just can’t get back to reality. Her family loves her . She is beautiful and intelligent but something is going to happen. Death? Jail? We don’t no. Please help!

My father died when we were very young. She’s bipolar and I believe that she uses the drug as a self medicating thing. I’m scared my sister is going to end up dead if she doesn’t get help soon

  9. Good evening, My name is Jennifer. I’m reaching out to intervention for my younger sister. She has been a meth user for many years now and I have watched her addiction to meth just ruin her life. She has lost contact with all 3 children, gone to jail and even prostituted to pay for her addiction. My sisters addiction has really ruined her life and it really scares me. I’m afraid that one day she be found in a ditch somewhere dead or just locked up again. I biggest desire is to just to have my little sister back. I miss her laughs, she is a very smart young lady and just has so much potential to do something more in her life.
My sister and I didn’t have our mother growing up and the home we were adopted in wasn’t the most stable home as far emotionally. We were both sexually abused and just dealt with allot of things. I’m reaching out in hopes of getting my sister help. I will do everything I can to stand by her side while she gets the professional help that she needs, but I cant watch her life this life any longer its killing her. please help my sister
